Synopsys Opens Expanded Shanghai Office and R&D Center
Continued Investment in Integrated Site Illustrates Long-term Commitment to China Market

Synopsys, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNPS), the world leader in semiconductor design software, today announced the opening of an expanded Shanghai office, which now includes the R&D Center and houses more than 200 sales, R&D, and technical support employees. The fully integrated site will help the Shanghai team to continue working closely with customers and partners to address their greatest design challenges. Dr. Chi-Foon Chan, president and chief operating officer of Synopsys, hosted the ribbon-cutting ceremony together with company executives Yu Zhong-Yu, member of National Committee of the CPPCC and president of China Semiconductor Industry Association; Feng Ji Chun, director of Department of High and New Technology and Industrialization, Ministry of Science and Technology P.R.C (MOST); key clients and strategic partners.

"China's semiconductor industry has maintained strong development momentum in recent years. First, technological advancement has accelerated and breakthroughs have been achieved in semiconductor design, manufacturing, packaging, and testing. Second, a favorable cycle has been established for capital investment," remarked Mr. Yu Zhong-Yu of the CPPCC and China Semiconductor Industry Association. "Close cooperation with international companies has played a key role in promoting the development of China's semiconductor industry. By increasing its focus on the China market, we believe Synopsys, the world leading company in the electronic design automation industry, will become a valuable long-term player in China's semiconductor industry."

"We expect that Synopsys' integrated Shanghai center will help develop the next generation of design tools for IC designers around the world and will offer in-depth support to China's semiconductor industry," said Dr. James Sung, vice president of marketing and sales at SMIC. "We believe that the combination of SMIC's strength in developing advanced silicon technologies and Synopsys strong position in electronic design automation software will help our mutual customers solve their tough design challenges."

"China's semiconductor industry continues to expand, making the China market increasingly important to Synopsys' strategic planning for both the Asia-Pacific region and the global market. As an important part of our China strategy and a testimony to our commitment to the local market, we have expanded Synopsys' Shanghai facility to address the growing opportunity," said Dr. Chan of Synopsys. "Synopsys plans to continue developing our business in the region, and is confident that China's semiconductor market will continue to prosper.

Synopsys opened its first office in China in 1995 and has since set up offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Shenzhen. In 2003, Synopsys relocated its Beijing office to a significantly larger location closer to the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and renowned universities. It is three times as large as the previous office. Over the past five years, the average annual growth rate of Synopsys' revenue in China was approximately 70 percent. Apart from its successful establishment in China, Synopsys formed a number of strategic partnerships in the China market, including founding the joint laboratory for advanced SoC design with the Chinese Academy of Sciences and supporting the construction of China state IC design incubators.

"Due to the rapid development of China's semiconductor industry, semiconductor vendors have had to face many tough challenges. Synopsys plans to use its integrated sales, R&D and technical services teams in Shanghai to help satisfy semiconductor vendors' increasing demand and competitiveness in the international market," said Mr. Pan Jianyue, country manager of Synopsys China. "Synopsys plans to continue to invest in the growing China market."

The expanded Shanghai office is located at Zhaofeng Tower, 14F-16F, 1027 Changning Road.
