Cloud native EDA tools & pre-optimized hardware platforms
Synopsys, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNPS), a world leader in semiconductor design software, today announced that it is the first to demonstrate a device controller based on USB-IF's Certified Wireless USB specification, the new wireless extension to USB that combines the speed and security of wired technology with the ease-of- use of wireless technology. The demonstration, which takes place at this week's Intel Developer Forum, shows multimedia files being transferred to and from a PC platform based on the Certified Wireless USB technology and on a device controller IP reference design from Synopsys. Synopsys' IP reference design is based on the Certified Wireless USB specification. These transfers are similar to transfers done today between a PC and an MP3 player or digital camera. The demonstration uses no wires. The transfers use Wireless USB protocols (based on the Certified Wireless USB spec) over WiMedia common ultra-wideband (UWB) radios. The demonstration can be viewed in the Wireless USB Community in the Intel booth.
"As a contributor to the specification, Synopsys has been working closely with the earliest implementers of the Certified Wireless USB specification," said Jeff Ravencraft, chairman of the USB Implementers Forum. "Their progress with this demonstration shows the maturity of the standard. Synopsys' work in the interoperability lab is a great example of how to successfully develop products based on the specification."
"As the world leader in connectivity IP, Synopsys' demonstration of a Wireless USB device proves the standard and ecosystem are now ready for broad- based implementation," said Guri Stark, vice president, Synopsys' Solutions Group. "Our early involvement will help accelerate the adoption of the standard in the embedded IP market."
The USB-IF Certified Wireless USB specification builds on the success of wired USB and helps move USB technology into the wireless future. The specification gives portable devices such as PCs or consumer electronics the ability to connect without cables. Certified Wireless USB supports high- bandwidth data streams, while requiring only a fraction of the power of existing standards. Synopsys is a contributing member of the WiMedia Alliance and participates in the technical working group. The WiMedia Alliance is the leading global organization driving industry-wide activities for the development and adoption of high-speed WPAN solutions using UWB technology.
