Synopsys, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNPS), a world leader in semiconductor design software, today announced the appointment of Brian Cabrera as vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary. Mr. Cabrera brings to Synopsys more than 18 years of extensive legal and operations experience in software, hardware and Internet technology organizations with up to $3 billion in annual revenues. In his new role, Mr. Cabrera manages and oversees all legal matters of the Company and serves as corporate secretary. Mr. Cabrera reports to Synopsys Chief Financial Officer Brian Beattie.
Mr. Cabrera joins Synopsys from Callidus Software Inc., a leading provider of enterprise incentive compensation software, where he served in a number of roles since joining the company in August 1999. Most recently, Mr. Cabrera was senior vice president, general counsel and secretary. Mr. Cabrera helped take the company public in 2003 and was responsible for all acquisitions, divestitures and corporate governance functions, as well as all Board, committee and annual shareholder meetings. His responsibilities also included negotiating large enterprise agreements with Fortune 500 firms.
Commenting on Mr. Cabrera's appointment, Mr. Beattie noted, "We're pleased to have someone of Brian's caliber join our team. Brian's expertise negotiating multi-million dollar corporate agreements, mergers, acquisitions and business and technology transactions will prove instrumental as we navigate our next phase of growth."
Prior to joining Callidus, Mr. Cabrera served as chief operations counsel for PeopleSoft Inc., where he was responsible for field legal services worldwide. Before PeopleSoft, he was senior counsel for Netscape Communications Corp., legal counsel at Silicon Graphics Inc. and a litigator with the law firm of Bronson, Bronson & McKinnon in San Francisco. Earlier in his career, Mr. Cabrera held positions with the U.S. Attorney's office, the United States District Court for the Central District of California and the Office of the Attorney General of California. Mr. Cabrera's diverse experience spans various organizational disciplines from legal, operations and corporate development to human resources, governance and board secretary roles. Mr. Cabrera holds both bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Southern California, as well as a Juris Doctorate from the USC Law School.
