Synopsys, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNPS), a world leader in semiconductor design software, today announced the Best Paper Awards for the eighth annual Synopsys Users' Group (SNUG®) in Boston, Mass. SNUG Boston is part of a global program that last year drew more than 4,000 integrated circuit (IC) and system design engineers to 10 such technical conferences worldwide. At the Boston event, the first- place award for Best Paper went to Branimir Ivetic, Claudio Vignati, Lyes Djama and Stefano Camera of ST Microelectronics for "HSIM's Integration within ST Design Flow for Smart Power and High Voltage Technologies." Ivetic also won the award for "Best First-Time Presenter" at a SNUG event.

Second place went to Vincent D'Alessandro and Zahi Abuhamdeh of TranSwitch for "A Case Study of Hierarchical Scan Compression Implementation Using Synopsys' DFT MAX." Third place went to John Biggs of ARM for "Aggressive Leakage Management in ARM-based Systems." The winning papers were selected by the attendees.

The Technical Committee Award went to Stuart Sutherland of Sutherland HDL, Inc. and Don Mills of LCDM Engineering for "Standard Gotchas-Subtleties in the Verilog and SystemVerilog Standards that Every Engineer Should Know."

Two Technical Committee Award Honorable Mentions went to Jim Antonellis of Broadcom Corp. for "HSPICE in DDR2 Analysis" and Gregory Beers, James Kirk and Scott Coates of Agere Systems for "Predicting Chip-package Resonance of the Power Distribution Network using PrimeRail."

This year's two-day SNUG Boston hosted a record number of more than 400 attendees and featured a technical program with 30 user papers, 22 Synopsys technical tutorials and four panels, all presented by Synopsys users and Synopsys technical experts. These presentations focused on a wide array of innovative solutions for engineers designing complex systems.
