Synopsys Named a Visionary in Gartner's Magic Quadrant for Application Security Testing

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Aug. 31, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Synopsys, Inc. (Nasdaq: SNPS), today announced that it has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the Visionaries quadrant of the 2015 Magic Quadrant for Application Security Testing*. Gartner defines application security testing (AST) as products and services designed to analyze and test applications for security vulnerabilities, ideally using multiple approaches, including static AST (SAST), dynamic AST (DAST), interactive AST (IAST) and mobile AST. The full report can be downloaded here.

The report evaluated vendors on 12 criteria and placed Synopsys in the Visionaries quadrant for its Seeker® product, an IAST technology recently acquired by Synopsys from Quotium, based on ability to execute and completeness of vision.

According to the Gartner Magic Quadrant report, "Visionaries in this Magic Quadrant are vendors that are advancing the emerging areas of IAST, mobile AST and RASP [runtime application self-protection]. The goal of IAST is fast and accurate security testing that is suitable for use in development, where minimal security expertise is present and accurate results are needed quickly. Mobile testing is a set of existing and new technologies and methods for ensuring the security of mobile applications. RASP is an emerging capability for the real-time protection of production applications that complements IAST."

"We are honored to be acknowledged as a visionary in the Gartner Magic Quadrant," said Andreas Kuehlmann, senior vice president and general manager of the Software Integrity Group at Synopsys. "As a relatively new entrant into the software security space, we have rapidly ramped up our offering organically and through strategic acquisitions of innovative technologies and exceptional talent. We believe Gartner's assessment of Seeker underscores our vision of improving software quality and security through a rigorous and efficient 'sign-off' process that integrates seamlessly into the software development life cycle. Seeker's IAST capabilities complement the other application security testing technologies in our portfolio, adding tremendous value to our offering."

Synopsys entered the software quality and security market with its acquisition of Coverity, a leading SAST vendor, in the spring of 2014. Its acquisitions of Codenomicon, a pioneer in protocol fuzz testing and software composition analysis (SCA), and the Seeker product followed in 2015. As an established leader providing the global semiconductor industry with the tools and semiconductor IP needed to design the advanced chips found in today's electronics, Synopsys' products represent more than 400 million lines of code. Synopsys was one of Coverity's first customers because it recognized early on the importance of software quality and security. Today, Synopsys is focusing on improving the security and quality of software deliverables by integrating sophisticated, accurate analysis technologies into the software development process. Synopsys offers products under the Coverity, Codenomicon and Seeker brands, which provide early insight into highly relevant defects, vulnerabilities and threats with actionable remediation guidance and real-time visibility that enable organizations to better manage risk and efficiency.
